How much will it cost?

Example costs

It is very difficult to put a definitive figure on how much you will spend going motor racing. Even in a Championship such as ours, where we try to control costs as much as possible, budgets for a season's racing will vary wildly from driver to driver.

Obviously the biggest single outlay will be the cost of the race car itself. You should be able to buy a second hand, race-prepared Porsche 924 between £3,000 and £5,000. A ‘Production Spec’ Porsche Boxster could be put on the grid for around £10,000, whilst a ‘Race Spec’ prepared Porsche Boxster will cost in the region of £22,000 (including the donor car). Then you need to transport it to and from the race tracks, or get someone to transport it for you...

Before you even turn a wheel in anger, you need to get your race licence, buy your safety equipment, and pay your membership fees to the PDA and BRSCC. You should allocate approximately £1,750 to cover all of these areas.

Over the course of a season, your biggest outlay would then be on the following items:

Item
Race entry fees (generally 1 x qualifying and 2x races per meeting)
Tyres
Fuel
Brake pads
Other consumables
Mechanical / crash damage repairs

Taking all of the above into account, we estimate that you should allocate in the region of £1,000 on average for a race weekend in the Porsche Championship (assuming you run the car yourself).

Race ready cars are also available to hire, some of which include full trackside support packages. Please contact Driver Representative Nick Hull on 07734 428401 if you are interested in this option or would like to discuss specific budget requirements in more detail.
