It is very difficult to put a definitive figure on how much you will spend going motor racing. Even in a Championship such as ours, where we try to control costs as much as possible, budgets for a season's racing will vary wildly from driver to driver.
Obviously the biggest single outlay will be the cost of the race car itself. You should be able to buy a second hand, race-prepared Porsche 924 between £3,000 and £5,000. A ‘Production Spec’ Porsche Boxster could be put on the grid for around £10,000, whilst a ‘Race Spec’ prepared Porsche Boxster will cost in the region of £22,000 (including the donor car). Then you need to transport it to and from the race tracks, or get someone to transport it for you...
Before you even turn a wheel in anger, you need to get your race licence, buy your safety equipment, and pay your membership fees to the PDA and BRSCC. You should allocate approximately £1,750 to cover all of these areas.
Over the course of a season, your biggest outlay would then be on the following items:

Taking all of the above into account, we estimate that you should allocate in the region of £1,000 on average for a race weekend in the Porsche Championship (assuming you run the car yourself).
