Oulton Park 10th May 2008

No one will run away with the title this year!
The fifth round of the Porsche 924 Championship at Oulton Park was a close fought battle between the two top championship contenders, Will Penrose and Matt Davies, with Matt taking the win by a margin of just over a tenth of a second. Matt and Will would now be tied for the lead of the championship except Matt also secured the single point for fastest lap!
The two drivers and cars were so closely matched that neither was ever able to break away and establish a clear lead, and the whole race was spent with second place harassing the leader for a passing opportunity. These came frequently, with the lead changing hands five times during the ten lap race.
Just behind the leaders was Alastair Kirkham waiting to pounce on any mistakes from Matt and Will. He did manage to get alongside the second place car on a couple of occasions. Making sure that Alastair didn't lose concentration was Steve Brown who finished fourth just 4.5 seconds behind the winner and maintaining an impressive string of good finishes.
Almost everyone had a great weekend with just a single non-finisher and some close battles going on further down the field. Congratulations to all the drivers on some really exciting, clean racing.
