What do you drive Andy, and what championship are you already in, perhaps if you haven't already got a Boxster you should buy one and come and join us, and see just how good our championship is.

As some will recognise I am a CSCC guy, and have been for a while, but most of all I am a club racing addict and take a keen interest in a number of club series from Monopostos to Clubmans K Series to Sports 2000 to PCGB to PDA/ BRSCC etc.

I actually race a 924, albeit an "S" in CSCC and love the racing Porsches and the transaxle cars in particular. But, there are plenty of places to race 944s etc so no need to develop new series for those cars. Boxsters on the other hand are great cars with plenty of potential! The more people that have the opportunity to race the better for all of us.

I'd love to consider racing a Boxster but even the Production class is too rich for me at the moment. One day, maybe, but I could consider a cheaper Boxster alternative as outlined above - 2.5 and bolt in cage - or something like the MX5 Mk3 which I fo see as a cost effective alternative for those on limited budgets.

surely the cost in the cage difference is negligible and hasnt stopped anyone building a car so far,

we are happy with the place that the championship is at, we seem to be doing something right as PCGB are copying us with TV coverage for the first time this year , which we've had for the last 4 years and 2015

I should have also said, that I do think the difference in cage cost is significant. A bolt in cage costs about £1k and is simple to fit. A weld in cage costs more to buy and significantly more to fit, in terms of man hours. At a guess it's about 3 times more expensive for the welded option than a bolt in version in total cost terms. That does not encourage anyone to race a Boxster.

As for TV coverage, I always think this is a red herring at club level. The viewing figures for a niche channel on satellite are negligible and I really doubt that many club competitors have got significant sponsorship on the back of TV coverage. Personally I'd rather pay less for club membership or lower entry fees and not bother about TV coverage!

CSCS is a a great championship is you want to race with lots of different types of cars, we are trying to be a 2 make Porsche championship rightly or wrongly........ You have gained a few of our drivers ( but that sanother storey) good look with your racing.

Andy our cage is circa 2k fitted, our fees are circa 385 to join the PDA, circa 380 per round for 19 rounds , I do think that's still value for money which includes TV

Thanks for the friendly welcome and encouragement :o

In an ideal world I'd do a few CSCC races and a few BRSCC/PDA races but I always new i'd have to change cars. The S was a toe in the water exercise to see whether I liked rwd, and whilst I waited to decide what to do with my Toyota. A Boxster could suit, but not yet I think, as they are still a but expensive for me, hence the questions/ suggestion about the production class. I agree the entry fees are decent VfM.

I am only aware of a couple of Boxster racers that now race with CSCC, and even then only 2-3 times a season each.

There are now two in 750MC Roadsports plus one (me) in Britcar. Of all of PCGB, Britcar, Roadsports, CSCC and PDA, we (PDA) are the most strict in terms of modifications but as a one-make series you would expect that. If you built a car to PDA spec you would find it hard to compete in other series (well, that's my excuse). On the other hand, because we allow the least in the way of modification, PDA may well be the cheapest place to race a Boxster.

Here's a link to the Safety Devices bolt-in cage:

Here's a US one for $1700:

Custom Cages don't make a bolt-in for the Boxster.

I have raced in production this year and it has been great fun. Mainly because I had so many reliability issues with my 924.

Would def recommend the class to other drivers because it is very simple in terms of the fact there is so little prep in between races and at the track on a weekend.

However the frustration of understeer has gotten the best of me so time to go class A
