I was throwing out an old Bell crash helmet today that had a couple of cracks in the finish from when I rolled a kart a few years ago. Don't ask.

Anyway, since it was damaged, I didn't want anyone picking it up at the dump, so I set about destroying it... or so I thought.

Basically, I took a pick to it, using the pointy end, and it just chipped the finish and bounced straight off. Three additional blows in the same area produced the same result and by this time I was getting concerned about getting the blunt end between the eyes.

Turning to the visor, the first blow deformed, but didn't pierce it. A second attempt got through enough to give the wearer something of a personality change.

Quite encouraging, I thought. However, this one was made in the USA, land of litigation. I wonder if those now made in China, where life is cheaper are up to the same standard?
