Frankland and Pattison take on the 4ltrs

Motor Racing - don't you just love it.....With my car up for sale and wanting to get the exposure I entered both the 924 race and the 4 cylinder race. Brands for me has been a bogie track, cooked the engine last year and crashed into the gravel just like Phil the previous year. 924 Race 1 qualified 10th. a little unhappy at this but "must try harder " ( where have I heard this before ? ) Fairly uneventful and finished 10th...

Porsche 4 cylinder race
Only me and Paul ( Pattison ) in this as Steve's car had expired. My main fear was the speed at which the bigger Porsches would catch us and how would they deal with us - would they be respectful or just barge through......I got a good start and as I barrelled down paddock hill was met by a red 944 finishing its pirouette right in front of me - for a moment t I was certain I was going to hit but a last second dive across the grass meant we missed...Paul on the other hand had come to a complete stop ( Yes ! ) I then set about getting some space between us and was gobsmacked when the first 944 caught me in about 8 laps. Paul and I battled endlessly lap after lap both losing and gaining position as the 944s swarmed around us. On the run up to the final lap Paul stuck his nose down the inside between me and the wall - I was so amazed I can't print the words that actually came out. Just at the same time a 944 dived to my left and in that split second Paul got a grip of the lap. 2nd in class was not what I was planning but hats off to Paul for a bloody brave manoeuvre ( which was also highly dangerous for him ) and top marks to me for not putting him in the wall.... 924 Race Sunday.

Was I determined or what ......great start and made up a lot of places but it descended in to a straight battle between me and Paul again. This time I kept a very tight line on to the straight that even a microbe couldn't get through. Led Paul all the way round until he finally outdid himself ( I had been ready for this ) and spun as we came on to the straight. Yes ! that's it only a couple of laps to go and its in the.......oh no what's that hot water coming from under the bonnet - yes you have guessed it - cooked it again on the run up to last lap. Do I love motor racing - YES but only when its going good ! Well played to Paul Pattison.
