Wonder Warren Wins 924 Championship

Linda Warren crowned four seasons of racing a 924 in the BRSCC Toyo Porsches with a Class C Championship title, secured at Silverstone in October.

Husband Guy said "It seems an age ago when in 2012 we started our first race with the PDA at Cadwell Park. We finished towards the back but there our journey began. Another half-season in 2013 and then took a rest in 2014 while we got a budget together to do a full season in 2015."

Local friend and thrice champion in the Class A Boxsters, Rick Styrin, became a mentor to Linda and helped her build both speed and confidence with track days at their nearest circuit, Croft. "We have to thank Rick for his unending enthusiasm and love of racing, his total belief in Linda's ability, and for becoming the best of friends."

For 2016, Linda swapped from the green 924 to the red and black car that took Adam Croft to the title in 2015. Guy continued "Our first race meet was at Snetterton in April. Quali still resisted our attempts at full race pace but when the lights went out in race 1 - bang - we found it! Three 2nd places later and we were euphoric! Rockingham was the following month. We're we a flash in the pan? Well, the rest is history."

From those early season races, it was obvious that Niz El-Chamaa, Pip Hammond and Karl Rossin would present the biggest challenge. "We took the battle to the front with some great duelling with Niz, Karl and the other guys. This continued at Oulton with great battles with Niz, more podiums and then at Castle Combe with those epic battles with Pip."

Mid season jitters followed, with a DNF at Anglesey, followed by three 7th places at Donington, and with both Rossin and El-Chamaa out of the frame, it began to look like John Broadley and Hugh Peart might stand a chance of catching Linda in the closing rounds. In the end, it was two finishes at our final round at Silverstone that secured sufficient points to ensure victory.

"There are so many people to thank that have helped us" continued Guy. "It starts with Nick Hull who first invited us to a karting event where we met other PDA racers Rick and Adam back in 2011. These two have given us much support and encouragement over the years. They have also helped with securing sponsorship, initially from Richard Sykes who helped us buy our first car and then from Barry Groves and FineDrinks Cooperative/Fizz who helped support us this year. Nick also put us in touch with Chris 'Fudge' Coates, who along with Dave 'Dido' have worked tirelessly to keep the cars race-ready. Tony 'tyres' Mekwinski deserves a special mention for offering us his car for this year - he was very generous. All the PDA racers we've met have all played a part in encouraging us to keep going - Alastair, Karl, Phil, Steve Potts and Steve Brown to name but a few."

Linda "It has been an incredible season for us. We never knew how Motor racing could give and take with equal measure, physically, mentally and of course emotionally. We feel honoured and privileged to have secured the championship."

Linda concludes "We do feel very grateful to have been given the opportunities and to have brought it home. Follow your dreams and never ever give up."
