Hello everyone

I'm new to the forum and to my 924 (1979 model year). I've brought it to run in the HSCC 70 Roadsports, but was hoping to steal some ideas and tips from some veteran 924 racers!!!

Can anybody recommend a good pad and shoe combination using the standard 924 discs and drums?

Also can anyone recommend a good set of front springs, I can lower by about 30mm and stay well within the regs.

Lastly could the rear end be lowered by the same amount without removing the lot?

Any help would be greatly appreciated

Best advice I can give you is

Come and race with us!

There are a couple of very good cars for sale at the moment. Or it wouldn’t take much to bring yours in line with the regs.

And you can say you race in a 1 make Porsche series!

Seriously though I fear in the HSCC 2L class you will struggle. Although the 924 handles well it doesn’t have the power compared to other cars in that class.

Our regs are specifically designed to keep the cost down and cars as even as possible (with a HP limit) so the racing is always close, this year the championship went down to the final race!

Come along we are a friendly bunch

Steve

Hi Smithers

As you might have picked up, for brake linings, most of us use EBC yellow stuff pads on the front and any old thing on the back. You can apparently get brake shoes for the back relined using a proper competition friction material by Ferodo and Mintex specialists. Haven't tried it myself, but might do so.

Adjusting the ride height at the rear is complicated, but it can be done with both early and late cars without needing to drop the torsion bar carrier as I used to think. You will need to get a manual or go onto one of the 924 / 944 enthusiast websites to get the procedure. The early cars have a hole cut out of the sill opposite the torsion bars. For later cars you have to cut a hole. Look at photos on the site and you will see what I mean. Once you have a hole in the sill, its a matter of supporting the weight of the car and kocking through the torsion bars with a heavy hammer and a length of broom handle. You're probably sorry you asked now!

Before you have a horrible accident, that should read "knocking"

Thanks for the help everyone.

I've got a good starting point for the setup now.

The reason i'm going for the HSCC is because of the novice incentive scheme and the fact their are lots of different types of car to race against (ie slower ones, trust me i checked, their in a different class but at least i shouldn't come last. It's my first season so i'm not going to very fast anyway. If i end up being any good and enjoy myself i could be making an appearance in the series in 2009 as i'm going to try and make any modificaton to the car inline with both regulations as the spirit of them seems similar.

Ref Knocking

Do you mean the guy who built his own car and who's engine destroyed it's self?

Regards
